I want to know about Pregnancy Indigestion and Nausea.
Pregnancy indigestion and nausea is a common ailment of women. Most women become nauseated and vomit a great deal during the first months of their pregnancies.
There is an Old Wives Tale that says: a pregnant woman who has a lot of indigestion or heartburn will have a baby with a lot of hair. I don’t know about that but I would like to look at some of the causes of pregnancy indigestion and nausea.
Morning sickness (nausea and vomiting) affects 50 to 85 percent of all pregnant women. This condition is not limited to the morning and can happen any time of the day. The cause of morning sickness is not known but may have many contributing factors.
1. An increase in the hormone, progesterone works to relax the muscles of the uterus to prevent early labor, could also relax the muscles of the stomach and intestines. This could lead to excess acid in the stomach.
2. An increase in sensitivity to odors.
3. An increase in HCG (human chroionic gonadotropin).
Morning sickness usually ends by the end of the 4th month of pregnancy. Studies have shown that women who have morning sickness are less likely to have a miscarriage. Pregnancy indigestion and nausea can be painful especially the indigestion.
Indigestion during pregnancy is caused, in part, by hormonal changes in the first stages. Later it can be caused by the womb pressing on the stomach. There are things you can do to alleviate and prevent indigestion.
1. Avoid particular foods such as, fried foods.
2. Try eating smaller meals and eat more often.
3. Sit up straight when you eat to take pressure off your stomach.
Do not take antacid tablets or any form of antacid without first checking with your health care provider to make sure they are safe to take during pregnancy. If you have recurring pregnancy indigestion and nausea, ask your doctor about the best way to treat these symptoms.
